Our lousy politicians

EDITOR:

American politics is in dire need of a Good Shepherd and a compromising flock. "I am the Good Shepherd: The Good Shepherd lays down his life for the sheep." John 10:11.

The political atmosphere in America is a national disgrace.

Our constitutional principals have been forsaken or forgotten. Political gridlock and finger pointing has become a way of life with no end in sight; and the most important social issues are never mentioned or purposely ignored.

Our politicians are embedded in an unforeseeable battle of political wills that has divided and ruined our great economy and country forever. They're all corrupted by power and money and invest only in the grandiosity of their own imaginings and forsake serving their voters and God. "Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God." 1 Peter 2:16.

Politicians are forever crying about the lousy state of affairs of the middle class (in order to garner their votes) but they fail to mention the poor. While another 2.6 million people slipped into poverty in the United States last year, the Census Bureau reported the number of Americans living below the official poverty line, 46.2 million people, was the highest number in the 52 years since the bureau began publishing figures on it.

Each January, communities across the country conduct a comprehensive census of their homeless populations and, recent national data suggests that an estimated 636,017 people experience homelessness in the United States on a given night.

A majority of homeless people live in shelters or transitional housing units (329,319 people). According to a December 2011 survey, 67,495 veterans are homeless on any given night, and twice as many experience homelessness during a year. "If one of your countrymen becomes poor and is unable to support himself among you, help him as you would an alien or a temporary resident, so he can continue to live among you." Leviticus 25:30-40.

Another American tragedy that politicians recoil from is abuse. The United States has the worst record of abuse of any industrialized nation, losing 5 children every day to abuse-related deaths. Why, each year 3.3 million reports of child abuse are made in the United States involving 6 million children (often times involving multiple children).

Adult abuse is also a national problem. One out of every 14 Americans over the age of 60 may be suffering from some sort of abuse. It's hard to imagine that those who have protected and cared for us for all these years may now need our care and protection, but it's true. "The Lord examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence his soul hates." Psalms 11:5.

And finally abortion, it's been reported that China has slaughtered roughly 300 million babies thus far due to abortion. That's nearly the entire population of the United States.

In contrast, the United States has aborted 50 million babies since 1973. Getting elected to a political office in America has trumped the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as defined in our U.S. Constitution.

"You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex. Your workmanship is marvelous. - and how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, Oh God. They are innumerable..." Psalms 139:13-14.

Most of the world hates us, not because of our good people but because of our lousy politicians. So, consider the following: "Between two evils, choose neither; between two goods, choose both." Tyron Edwards.
