Iron Mountain names Wendy’s Heisman nominees

IRON MOUNTAIN - Iron Mountain High School seniors Kassidy Schaut and Max Frorenza have been named Iron Mountain High School winners for the 2012 Wendy's High School Heisman Award, according to Iron Mountain High School principal Maryann Boddy.

The program celebrates the achievements of the nation's top high school seniors both in and out of the classroom, who excel in academics, athletics and student leadership. The program consists of five phases - school winners, state finalists, state winners, national finalists and national winners.

Frorenza has advanced to the state finalist level.

Kassidy Schaut

Schaut is the daughter of Jennifer and Matt Gauthier of Kingsford. While attending Iron Mountain High School, she has earned a place on the IMHS Honor Roll for six consecutive semesters, has been invited to the IMHS Honor Banquet for three years, and is a member of the Iron Mountain High School Honor Society. She has also earned the IMHS Academic Excellence Award, along with IMHS Math Student of the Month.

Schaut has earned numerous awards as a member of the Iron Mountain High School competitive cheerleading team.

She is a very dedicated and determined young lady in both athletics as well as in the classroom, school officials noted. She has also worked a part-time job and has still found time to participate in volunteer activities.

Frorenza is the son of Julie and Sam Frorenza of Iron Mountain. During his career at Iron Mountain High School, Max has earned a place on the IMHS Honor Roll for six consecutive semesters and has been invited to the IMHS Honor Banquet for three years. Max is also a member of IMHS Honor Society.

He has been actively involved in both the IMHS Key Club and Youth in Government. In his junior year, he was nominated as the Michigan Boys State Delegate.

Frorenza is a three-sport athlete, participating in soccer, basketball and tennis, and claiming several athletic awards and honors.

"Congratulations to both Kassidy and Max for being such outstanding role models for Iron Mountain High School," Boddy added.
