IRON MOUNTAIN - An Iron Mountain man has entered a not guilty plea to felonious assault and malicious destruction of property.
Joel Patrick Stanchina, 29, is charged in Dickinson County Circuit Court with assault with a dangerous weapon (felonious assault) and malicious destruction of personal property $1,000 or more but less than $20,000.
According to the felony complaint, Stanchina's ex-girlfriend reported that during an argument on Oct. 3 of this year in her car while she was driving, Stanchina took out his folding knife and began stabbing the dashboard and windshield with it.
She then stopped the car in a parking lot and when he got out of the car, he stabbed a front tire of her car with the knife, causing it to go flat. She then locked herself and her two-year-old daughter in the car and called 911. She stated to police she was in fear that he was going to hurt her by cutting or stabbing her with the knife, the complaint said.
Police observed knife cuts to the dashboard, a cracked windshiled and the flat tire.
The incident allegedly occurred in Breitung Township.
Repair estimates for the damage to the vehicle totaled in excess of $2,800.
Judge Mary B. Barglind set a pre-trial conference for Dec. 17 at 1 p.m.
