ST. JOHN'S, Newfoundland - Lauri Benjamin Mykkanen passed away suddenly of natural causes on Nov. 10, 2012, at his temporary residence in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada.
He was employed as a health, safety and environment manager with SubSea7 located in St. John's.
Ben was born in Republic, the eldest son of the late Ben and Ruth Mykkanen, on Sept. 21, 1953. He graduated from Republic High School in 1971 and Michigan Technological University in 1979.
Ben was a permanent resident of Stavanger, Norway where he was employed at SubSea7 corporate headquarters.
Ben married Sherry Khoury Mykkanen on Sept. 29, 1979. He is survived by Sherry; daughters, Kristin and her husband, Arne Jakob Hidle, and Katie; brothers, Dan and his wife, Mary Jo, and Jon; mother-in-law, Mary Khoury; sisters-in-law, Priscilla, and Danielle and her husband, Kevin Romitti; along with 12 nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Ben also leaves behind a large international circle of friends and colleagues.
A memorial service to celebrate Ben's life will be held at Madlamark Kirke (Madlamarkvn 135, 4001 Stavanger) on Tuesday.
