Florence girls begin season tonight

FLORENCE, Wis. - Florence girls basketball, opening the season tonight on the road at Goodman against the Patriots, brings back five returning letter winners and one starter from last year's team.

"I am looking forward to the season and excited to see this group of girls compete this year," head coach Amy Johnson said. "They are competitors! The girls are hardworking and work well together as a team."

Three seniors and four juniors make up the 2012-13 Lady Cats roster. Junior Aly Young is the team's lone returning starter. Florence lost Chyanne Schaut, Kaycee Lund, Tia Kelly and Jazmyne Franklin to graduation.

"We will be strong in the post again this year. and we have some quickness at guard," Johnson said. "I like our chances in the conference this year and think it will be very competitive."

Katie Kilton will coach the jayvee squad.

The Lady Cats produced a 9-14 record last season, which included a 5-11 mark in the Northern Lakes Conference.

Florence's first home game is set for Thursday, Dec. 6 against Laona.

SENIORS - Jordan Glime, Kasey Roff, Lauren Joerns.
