G-P holds off Florence

Stankevich’s 17 lead Patriots to 41-31 NLC win

GOODMAN, Wis. - Rachel Stenkevich scored 17 points and Claire Goyak added 14 more, as Goodman-Pembine did enough damage in the first half to hold back Florence 41-31 Thursday in Northern Lakes girls hoops.

"Defensively we were strong," Patriots coach Dennis Bilski said, as his team held the Lady Cats to one point in the second quarter and led 25-8 at the break.

Florence came alive after halftime. Led by Brooke Soderberg's seven points, the Lady Cats outscored the Patriots 23-16 in the second half.

"Give Florence credit," Bilski said. "They played much better after halftime and put some pressure on."

Jordan Glime, Kasey Roff and jayvee call-up Tessa Merhalski each added five points for Florence.

Florence (0-1, 0-1) hosts Laona Thursday, while te Patriots (2-0, 1-0) got to Elcho Monday.
