IRON MOUNTAIN - A Kingsford man has been sentenced to a minimum of 40 months in prison to a maximum of 15 years for an incident in which he broke into a home and sexually and physically assaulted a woman.

Defense attorney Grant Carlson of Iron Mountain said letters submitted to the court on behalf of William Bottesi Jr., 40, paint a picture of his client as a good employer, father and family man that is honorable, caring, and considerate with no criminal history.

Carlson said it's unfortunate that his client was in court on Tuesday because of a poor decision he made in July.

The letters were written by an ex-wife of his client, his pastor and his client.

"He is still searching for answers and how it happened," Carlson said. Carlson added his client made poor decisions and needs to be punished.

Special Prosecutor Melissa Powell of Iron County said Bottesi's actions were very serious.

"This case kept me up at night wondering if I was being too lenient," she said.
