Rita Poquette

PEMBINE - Rita Marie Poquette, 79, of Pembine, was born in Kingsford on April 6, 1933, to the late Alvina (Bast) Smaglick-Lickman and Walter Smaglick.

She married her high school sweetheart of 59 years, Alfred Poquette on Oct. 10, 1953, in Hermansville. Together they have five children, Dale (Donna) Poquette, Valerie Reyment, Karen Rasmussen (Marvin Gillis), David (Bonnie) Poquette and Donald (Ragina) Poquette. This blessed them with eight grandchildren, Andrew J. Reyment, Ashley (Dan) Nelson, Heather (Nicholas) Hodkiewicz, Tiffany (Brian) Waskowiak, Jonathan Poquette, Brandon, Bryan and Danielle Poquette, as well as three great-grandchildren, Ava and Evelyn Hodkiewicz, and Beckham Nelson.

They lived in Sturtevant for 12 years before moving to Pulaski, where they raised their family, then retiring in Pembine. During this time she worked for Western Printing, Northern Shoe and the Pulaski School District.

Rita's love of life included cooking, camping, sewing, quilting, card playing, Friday night fish fries, music concerts and time spent with family and friends.

She was born to eternal life on Dec. 3, 2012, and is survived by her husband; her children; her brother, Paul Smaglick; sisters, Carol (Darrel) Post, Joyce (Frank) Sabo, and Susie (Mike) Gustitus; brothers, Wayne and Joe Lickman; brothers-in-law, Loren (Yvonne) Poquette and Bernard (Hariette) Poquette; sisters-in-law, Beverly Poquette, Evelyn (Jerry) Poquette, Yvonne (Jack) Peterson and Gail (Jim) Cater; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends that have come and gone through the years - she loved them all.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, William Lickman and Earl Lickman Jr.; a son-in-law, Michael Reyment; and one brother-in-law, Lester Poquette.

Friends may call Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. (Central time) at the Allo Coolman Funeral Home in Spalding.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. John Neumann Church in Hermansville. A luncheon will follow Mass in the church parish hall.

Burial will take place in the Meyer Township Cemetery in the spring.
