The Daily News

MANISTIQUE - Kingsford opened its wrestling season with a split here Wednesday. The Flivvers topped Munising 48-18 while coming up four points short against host Manistique (40-36).

"I felt good about the way we wrestled this evening," Flivvers head coach Torrey Adams said. "The guys put in a strong performance for the experience we have."

Keaton Parent (130 pounds) provided Kingsford's lone pin against Munising. Against the Emeralds, Parent, Austin Meise (140), Harley Winters (215) and Jonah Carlson (285) had pins.

Adams pointed out that Seth Collins had a strong match at 135 against Cole Gonzalez, a regional qualifier last year, losing 6-15.

"There are a few holes to fill in the line-up as guys make it to their appropriate weight classes," Adams said. "But we are wrestling hard and off to a good start. The next few days will be tough as we head to Wabeno this weekend and Marquette on Monday."
