IRON MOUNTAIN - Lorraine L. Fontecchio, 94, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at Freeman's Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Kingsford.
She was born on March 8, 1918, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Edward and Lillian (Lanning) Best. She attended the Iron Mountain Schools and was a lifelong resident of the area.
Lorraine married James "Jimmy" Fontecchio on Nov. 17, 1936, in Iron Mountain and he preceded her in death in 1996. She was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxillary. Lorraine enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty (David) Smart of Kingsford and Sally (John) Griffith of Kewaunee, Wis.; grandchildren, Lori (Tim) Bennett, Lenette (Mike) Johnson, Cliff (Alice) Schaut, Joella (Dan) Lindlbauer, Renee (Dan) Weber, Sharon (Dave) Antonissen, Dennis (Pam) Smart, Corrina Lukesh, Jim Griffith and Renee, John (Jennifer) Griffith, Pat Griffith and Brook; many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law; Joyce Best, Louise (Vis) Fontecchio and Louise (Tony) Fontecchio; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lorraine was preceded in death by a son, Terry; five brothers, Harold, Edwin, Archie, George and Orville Best; and a great-grandson, Cody DePas.
Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will follow Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Thomas Mackey will officiate.
Burial will be in Cemetery Park.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Freemans for the excellent care given to Lorraine over the past seven years.
