We have lost a very special person in this community. She was instrumental in bringing to our community the arts, music and culture which she so much enjoyed and wanted to share that joy with others. She was the founding member of the Dickinson County Council for the Arts.
This person is Margaret Johnson, but we all knew her as "Magee." Magee was a person who wanted to grow our community and with that growth she wanted people to have the enjoyment of music, art, and dance.
She was the person behind the Art Train, Out to Lunch, Art for All, the symphony's and the performers from around the globe who have come through our little town over the years. She believed that through this work, our community could offer what bigger cities had and more.
She knew that listening and playing music has a positive effect on children as well as adults.
To that end, she provided our community and our schools with some of the music and arts we have today. I am glad that I got to know Magee and had the opportunity to work beside her on the Dickinson County Council for the Arts.
On behalf of the Dickinson County Council for the Arts, our thoughts and prayers go out to Dr. Lorn and the family of Margaret "Magee" Johnson. We thank her for all she has done for our community by bringing us a little bit of culture through the joy of music and art.
