IRON RIVER - Erma V. Johnson, 90, of Iron River, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at Maryhill Manor in Niagara, Wis.
Erma was born Nov. 17, 1922, in Stambaugh, the daughter of Ferdinand and Charlotte (Bertagnoili) Erspamer. She attended the Stambaugh schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School in 1940.
She married Harland Johnson on May 11, 1946, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian, and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. They celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary in 1995. Harland preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 1996.
Erma was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River and a former member of the Blessed Sacrament Church and Guild of Stambaugh. She was an avid reader and enjoyed music, cooking, and baking, especially ravioli and cinnamon rolls. Erma's family always came first with her, and she was a very loving and wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by two sons, Mark (Barbara) Johnson of Traverse City, and Gary Johnson of Caspian; one daughter, Chris (Joe) Ehlers of Niagara; one brother, Frank Erspamer of Fresno, Calif.; one sister, Josephine Truel of Niagara; two sisters-in-law, Verna Wales of Iron River, and Betty Johnson of Portland, Ore.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Henry.
Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.
Funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery in Iron River in the spring.
