ISHPEMING - Kingsford, with Aidan Wienke and Cole Michaud teaming up for 39 points, downed Westwood 56-42 in a non-conference boys basketball game Thursday night.

"With their zone, we decided to go inside and Aidan and Cole did a great job of passing to each other back and forth, and hitting the open guy for the finish," Flivvers coach Dan Olkkonen said.

Wienke tallied a game-best 22 points, while Michaud added 17. Michaud pulled down a team-best 11 rebounds, with Olkkonen commending the effort on the offensive glass.

"I'm a man-to-man guy (on defense), but we used a zone because they have some big guys," Patriots head coach Ryan Reichel said after his team had fallen to 0-3 on the season.

"We played hard, but it was difficult to keep (Aidan) Wienke and (Cole) Michaud off the boards."

Travis Swanson led WHS - which trailed but 26-22 at the half - with 14 points. Teammate Luke Duquette chipped in 10.

"We got nice looks tonight," Olkkonen said. "And it was because of the passing. We made good decisions."

Westwood won the jayvee game, 46-44, but Kingsford took the freshmen game 55-20.

Kingsford (2-2) hosts Menominee Tuesday.
