MARQUETTE - Iron Mountain's Jared Gauthier wrestled to third place Saturday in the Marquette Challenge.
Gauthier (119) decisioned Nathan Beyer of Merrill in the third-place match.
"It was a good day for Jared," Mountaineers coach Brandon Rutter said. "Jared wrestled some tough wrestlers. It was the first time this year he was tested and he responded well."
Mountaineers added a sixth from Tanner Chouinard (145).
"Tanner had a great day of wrestling," Rutter said. "Tanner has been wrestling strong this season and he has been fun to watch."
Other Iron Mountain wrestlers with wins in the tournament included Alex Edwards (125) with a 2-2 record, Corbin Henkel (130) with a 2-2 record, along with David Jones (120) and Jacob Weslin (140) with one win each.
"Corbin Henkel had a good day at 130," Rutter said. "He had a tough bracket and he wrestled well. Alex Edwards wrestled well at 125, working his way to 112 bracket and was giving up size. He held his own."
Merrill captured the team title with 232.5 points. Iron Mountain placed 15th with 41.5.
"It was a tough tournament," Rutter said. "There was some tough brackets. Marquette puts on an excellent tournament.
"Overall I am happy with the way the guys wrestled."
Iron Mountain hosts a quad meet Thursday.
