Gussert totals 30; FP now 7-0

FLORENCE, Wis. - In front of an audience that included a Big Ten head coach, Lexi Gussert put in 18 or her 30 points in the first quarter as Forest Park ran its early season record to 7-0 with a 62-24 non-conference win over Florence here Tuesday night.

"Lexi got us off to a quick start," Lady Trojans head coach Jeff Syrjanen said. "But we also played some good defense out there tonight."

Gussert sunk four of her five 3-pointers in the first frame. She also had seven steals, five assists along with a team-high 13 rebounds.

Sierra Robarge also reached double figures for the Lady Trojans, scoring 11. Maria Stankewicz, Gina Graff and Robarge each had three steals.

Maddy Doll paced Florence with 11 points and eight rebounds, but the Lady Cats were hampered by 32 turnovers.

"He's got a good team," Florence coach Amy Johnson said. "We're hoping to regroup and win on Friday when we get back in conference play."

Forest Park also won the jayvee game, 42-26. Lady Trojans host Rapid River Thursday.

Florence(1-5) plays at Wabeno Friday.
