Binks Squirts take Marquette tourney

IRON MOUNTAIN - Dickinson Amateur Hockey Association's Binks Squirts swept the 24th Annual Marquette Holiday Tournament. Binks beat six out of the 13 teams by outscoring their opponents 56-7.

A complete effort by all 13 players continued to the success of the team, according to a team spokesperson. Binks defeated Escanaba, Copper Country, Iron Range, Marquette Casa, Marquette Elks before knocking off Iron River 7-2 in the championship.

Edward Jones Mites dumped Escanaba 12-0 and 9-3.

"The team is playing well and really improving each week," a team spokesman said.

Next game is slated for Saturday, Jan. 5, in Iron River against the Ice Hawks.

JV hockey

Blagec Bros took on Ontonagon and Marquette in jayvee hockey.

Ontonagon prevailed 9-1 and 6-2 while Marquette triumphed 6-1 and 6-1.

Dickinson Amateur Hockey Association's Hall Orthodontics Bantams picked up three points in the Central U.P. Hockey League standings over the weekend against Escanaba.

Hall (6-6-1 overall, 4-1-1 CUPHL) won the first game 7-2 and skated to a 5-5 tie in the second.

Hall is idle until road trips to Keweenaw Bay on Dec. 29 and Escanaba Dec. 30.


Beau Kralovec's four goals helped the Econo Foods Mites spill Escanaba, 1-0 and 7-3, in two one-period games at Mountain View Arena.

Isaiah Anderson picked up the win in net in the first game and Hart DeBidart was the winning goalie in the second.

Econo Foods return to the ice Saturday, Jan. 12, in the Marquette Mite Jamboree.

DAHA Hospitalists Squirts, with Colin Watkins collecting six goals and Ryan Tershner adding five, defeated Keweenaw Bay 11-2 and 17-0 to remain undefeated.

Ian Anderson was the winning goalie in both games.

Hospitalists take on Copper Country McDonald's on Sunday, Dec. 30, at Dee Stadium in Houghton.
