IRON MOUNTAIN - North Dickinson's Ken Pekarek and Kingsford's Carlee Benzie were selected as the male and female Hometowne Lumber athletes of the month for November.
Pekarek, signal-caller for the Nordics football team, helped lead his team on a deep postseason run in November. In two games, he rushed for 117 yards with two scores while passing for 150 yards and two more touchdowns.
Defensively, Pekarek notched seven tackles and an interception, as North Dickinson posted a 10-1 record in advancing to a Division 8 regional final.
Benzie, honored for her exploits on the volleyball and basketball courts, wrapped up her volley campaign by claiming Great Northern Conference Player of the Year accolades, showing total which included 74 aces and 186 assists.
Moving on to the hoops season, Benzie opened with a 13 points-per-game average, along with a five steals per contest.
