NORWAY - Doug Gillis will conduct softball clinics for coaches and players this week at Norway High School.

And Iron Mountain's Cori Rice, a former Division 1 college player, can vouch for Gillis' work.

"I can personally say I've seen the growth of teams who have been led by Doug," said Rice, involved with "very successful teams" that have been guided by coaches who were trained by Gillis. "They incorporated his drills and fundamental teachings."

Rice believes the coaching clinic "will greatly benefit the growth and competitiveness" of area softball.

"This is a great opportunity," she said.

Gillis' instructional coaches clinic covering pitching and hitting will run from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday.

For the players, sessions are slated for 10 a.m. to noon (hitting) and 12:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. (pitching) on Saturday. Clinics cost $50 for coaches; $40 apiece for the hitting and pitching or $60 combined.

Pitchers can also sign up for an "iLesson" where Gillis will film a private mini pitching session. Cost is $25.

Gillis, a six-time member of Team USA, serves as pitching consultant at the University of Missouri.
