QUINNESEC - A 2013 budget was approved by the Breitung Township Board of Trustees on Wednesday.

Superintendent Joe Rogina said revenues continue to be stable and the millage rate for township government remains at 4.2 mills.

"Property tax collection shows a slight increase of 1 percent in township revenues; however, personal property tax revenues could be reduced as early as the 2013 collection, depending on anticipated changes in state law," Rogina said. "Expenditures increased due to software and road repairs. Other expenditures remain near or at last year's levels."

Rogina added the cemetery fund shows a reduction in expenditures due to most driveways being surfaced in past years. The refuse collection fund remains near the level of 2012 in both revenue and expenses.

In addition, township improvement fund revenues have been increased in anticipation of proposed future projects, such as updates to the Quinnesec and East Kingsford parks and a boat landing project on the Menominee River at Badwater.

Rogina said revenues will have to be addressed for future growth of the East Kingsford Water Fund, which shows no increase in its fund balance for 2013. Future upgrades to the system need to be addressed when the current water bond is paid off.

Revenues will also need to be addressed to increase the Quinnesec Water Fund, which has a slight increase in its projected 2013 fund balance.

The township's general fund revenues, including the millage levy of 4.2 mills and various miscellaneous revenues, total $1,918,119 for fiscal year 2013.

Rogina said the personnel committee and the township board are to be commended for their long hours and assistance in preparing the 2013 budget.

Supervisor Denny Olson added the 2013 budget is a work in progress.

"There was a lot of good discussion out of the workshop meetings in where the township is going," he said.

The township board also approved the 2013 general appropriations act resolution.
