NORWAY - Team Norway Alpine Ski Racing Team entered the Christmas holiday season with a mission to accomplish as much as possible before the season began full-time.
Pine Mountain ski area will be the focus of much of Team Norway's pre-race season sessions as they prepare for the upcoming high school, United State Ski Association and International Ski Racing (F.I.S.) seasons.
The focus will be on the fundamentals of slalom and giant slalom.
Team Norway Alpine Ski Racing Team has named its first two A-Team athletes for 2013. Mandy Haferkorn of Norway and Jamie Testwuide of Vulcan will both compete in a number of international Races in North America, the first at Loch Lomand, Thunder Bay, Canada.
"We are making a lot of progress," program director Ron Lawrence said. "We are where we need to be in our slalom training. Our giant slalom training is kicking in over the Christmas holidays with our Christmas camp at Pine Mountain Resort.
"We will have a big turnout of athletes from around the Midwest. It is the one time during the year when all our Team Norway athletes come together and train as a team."
Lawrence added, "Right now it is about getting the miles on the snow."
"We need to keep our focus on the fundamentals and really increase our intensity the next two weeks," he said. "We have to get in a lot of runs. We are going to put in some long days over Christmas to accomplish this.
"We are going to take advantage of the really good snow conditions at Pine Mountain to get ready for our season."
