KINGSFORD - Ethel May Thornberry, 87, of Kingsford, passed away on Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at Maryhill Manor in Niagara, surrounded by family.
She was born on Oct. 2, 1925 in Clifton, Idaho, daughter of the late Gustave and Clessa (Rasmussen) Simon.
On March 8, 1946, she married LeRoy Vergne Thornberry in Brigham City, Utah. He preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 1997. She was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Simon, and is survived by a sister, Olive (Nathan) Karen of Caldwell, Idaho.
Ethel moved to Kingsford in 1946, and has been a resident ever since. She was a member of Redemption Hill Church, where she was very active teaching Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed to sew and made alterations for many years for many people in the community. Over the years, she loved golfing, water and snow skiing, camping and traveling.
Ethel is survived by a son, Allyn (Doreen) Thornberry of Waucedah Township; a daughter, Cheryl Thornberry of Madison, Wis.; four grandchildren, Pam Ravenscroft, Kim (Dale Jr.) Vacha, Allison (William) Baciak, and Rachel Thornberry; three great-grandchildren, William Baciak, Sophia Baciak and Camron Vacha; sisters-in-law, June Schultz of Milwaukee, and Inez (Jim) Riverside of Kingsford; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held today from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Kingsford Funeral Home, and on Friday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Redemption Hill Church in Kingsford.
The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Ronald Wolfe will officiate. Burial will be in the Quinnesec Cemetery.
Ethel's children wish to thank the staff at Maryhill Manor for their compassionate care, concern, and support of Mom over the past five years.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
