IRON MOUNTAIN - NFL Network analyst Steve Mariucci refuses to discuss the possibility of coaching the San Diego Chargers.
The Chargers, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune, will dismiss head coach Norv Turner and general manager A.J. Smith at the end of the 2012 regular season. Peter King of SI.com reported during "Football Night in America" that Mariucci has interest in coaching the Chargers next season.
Mariucci, an Iron Mountain High School graduate, said on the NFL Network he would not comment on the job while "very good friend" Norv Turner is still the team's coach.
"I would never comment on a coaching job where there's a coach in place, and the coach down there in San Diego happened to be a very good friend of mine, Norv Turner," Mariucci said. "There's no way I would ever discuss this right now, I don't know where it comes from. Let's just stop the nonsense, OK? Please."
Mariucci is a former NFL head coach with the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions.
