Louis Lesandrini Jr.

KINGSFORD - Louis "Gege" P. Lesandrini Jr., 65, of East Kingsford, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Oct. 27, 1947, in Iron Mountain, the son of Louis and Catherine (Rodman) Lesandrini Sr. Louis graduated from Kingsford High School in 1965. He received a bachelor of science degree in teaching with an emphasis in English and history.

Louis was a driver for UPS for 35 years, retiring in 2008. He was a very active member of Redemption Hill Church, where he served as a deacon, helped with the live nativity, made many community church dinners, and was willing to serve in any other capacity. Louis was a member of U.P. Whitetails and the N.R.A. He was a certified instructor for concealed weapons classes for Bullseyes to Bad Guys. He enjoyed hunting, model railroading, and classic cars. He was an avid Oakland Raiders fan.

Family was very important to Gege. He really liked to cook and host family gatherings.

Louis is survived by five children, Anita (Keith) Lyman of Kingsford, April (Ken) Degenaer of Iron Mountain, Allen (Diana) Schuls of Oconto Falls, Wis., Angi (John) Mellon of Kingsford, and Brandi (Ryan, Sr.) Schomisch of Black Creek, Wis.; his mother, Catherine "Kate" Lesandrini of Kingsford; one sister, Patricia (Bud) Sydmark of Iron Mountain; 12 grandchildren Kris (Crystal) Lyman, Miranda (Travis) Siewert, Justin (Courtnie) Degenaer, James Degenaer, Allie Lou Schuls, Caitly Testolin, Domenic Testolin, Nick (Tiff) Mellon, Jake Mellon, Maggi Mae Mellon, Shayleen Schomisch, and Ryan Schomisch Jr.; eight great-grandchildren Owen and Landon Siewert, Jude and Jadyn Degenaer, Zoey and Shylah Haanpaa, and Bentley and Ashlyn Mellon. He also leaves his nieces and nephews Cathy and Alex Hartenstien, Cal (Shannon) Coopman Jr., Jill and Taylor Logsdon, and Isaac and Dalton Burdge; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Louis Lesandrini Sr.; and his brother-in-law, Calvin Coopman Sr.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Redemption Hill Church.

Services will follow Sunday at 5 p.m., Sunday at the church. Rev. Ronald Wolfe and Rev. Alex Tunnicliff will officiate.

Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Kris Lyman, Travis Siewert, James Degenaer, Nick Mellon, Jake Mellon, Cal Coopman Jr., and Tony Erickson.

The Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
