IRON MOUNTAIN - Preparations have begun for the 2013 Bellin Health Pine Mountain Continental Cup International Ski Jumping Competition at Pine Mountain in Iron Mountain, reports Susie Fox of the Kiwanis Ski Club.

Volunteers of the host organization, the Kiwanis Ski Club, have begun making snow on the landing hill. This is the first step of hill preparation for the annual competition, Fox said.

With cooperation from Pine Mountain Resort and Keyes Peak ski areas and Mother Nature, the snow-making process should take five to eight days and then the grooming process begins.

"This process fine tunes the landing hill to very specific guidelines established by the International Ski Federation (FIS)," Fox said.

Dates for the 2013 competition are Saturday, Feb. 9 and Sunday, Feb. 10 with an official training day on Friday, Feb. 8.

Booster buttons are required on all three days and will be available for pre-purchase starting the second week in January, she said.

Buttons are required at the gates the weekend of the competition.

"As always, 10 to 12 countries are expected to participate in the 2013 competition with the best Continental Cup jumpers in the world on hand," Fox said.

Bellin Health is the title sponsor for the 2013 event. Gold sponsors committed to date include MJ Electric, Bacco Construction, Verso Paper, the Champion Family of Companies, Wells Fargo, Goodyear, and Pine Mountain Resort.

If interested in sponsorship or other information, contact the Kiwanis Ski Club at 779-1110.
