NORWAY - Registration continues for the third annual Norway-Iron Mountain Pond Hockey Tournament to be held Friday, January 25, and Saturday, Jan. 26, on pristine Hanbury Lake.
"This year's tournament will have an International flavor with the entry of a well seasoned pond hockey team from Wawa, Ontario," tournament officials announced. "Team Dereski from Wawa could be the team to watch this year. They are bringing a mix of crafty veterans and young guns to the pond."
The women's division should be very competitive with many new teams registering. Keweenaw Bay Battle Axes will try to chop their way to the top of the women's division and knock down defending champion Iron River Wicked Wingers.
Following Friday night's action from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., a "Rock the Pond" post-game reception with music provided by Next Myle will be held at the American Legion in downtown Norway from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Everybody is welcome to attend, with a $3 cover charge at the door. All proceeds from beverage sales at the reception will be used to support the Norway American Legion. Excess proceeds from the Pond Hockey Tournament are donated to support area youth sports programs.

"The Pond" Charity Hockey Association was formed in 2010 by a group of Senior League Hockey players from the Lofholm LumberJacks and Lake State Red Roofers of the DHL.
Nearly 20 teams in three divisions have already registered for this year's event.
