First U.P. basketball poll

Forest Park girls second

MARQUETTE - Forest Park's girls stand second in the basketball's season first poll of the U.P. Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.

St. Ignace leads Class D with a unanimous 25 poll points, followed by Forest Park at 20. North Central is tied for fifth.

Iron Mountain's unbeaten boys claimed the third spot in Class ABC behind Marquette (unanimous) and Negaunee.

U.P. Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association poll follows (first-place votes in parentheses):

BOYS

Class ABC

1. Marquette (5), 5-0 record, 25 poll points; 2. Negaunee, 6-1, 20; 3. Iron Mountain, 6-0, 15; 4. Gwinn, 4-2, 4, and Ironwood, 4-1, 4.

Others receiving votes: West Iron County (4-1) 3, Houghton (4-1) 2, Kingsford (3-2) 1, Gladstone (4-2) 1.

Class D

1. Carney-Nadeau (4),5-0, 22; 2. Cedarville (1), 5-1, 20; 3. Mid Peninsula, 5-1, 12; 4. Bessemer, 7-0, 10; 5. Brimley, 6-1, 4.
