MUNISING - Norway wrestlers, with Cayleb Winkler and Jake Wetsel each recording two victories, topped Munising and Manistique here Wednesday evening.
The Knights topped the Emeralds 43-29, while knocking off a shorthanded Munising squad 73-6.
Winkler (130 pounds) was one of four Knights to pin their opponent against Manistique. Also winning via a pin were Donny Houle (125), Jorden Neuman (189) and Pat Guffey. Wetsel (135) earned a major decision, and Tim Huddleston (119) also won in a decision.
"It was an exciting match it came right down to the end," Knights coach Nick Burklund said. "We needed wins at 189 and 215, and the kids responded with pins that put us in good shape."
Burklund also noted that Travis Moon (160) fought off his back to avoid an early pin and wound up only giving up a major decision.
"That was huge for momentum," Burklund said. "I thought we wrestled pretty good. We gave up some matches that I thought we wouldn't, but that's wrestling. You have to show up for every match. Every little thing comes into play, and if you can't put it together, it usually doesn't go your way."
Against the Mustangs, Winkler, Wetsel and Garrett Bonetti (145) produced pins. Travis Moon (152) and Taylor Bonetti (16) won via decisions.
"We wrestled well in the matches we had," Burklund said. "It was nice to see Taylor Bonetti come off a loss against Manistique and earn a major decision."
The Knights wrestle next at Kingsford Saturday as part of the Mariucci Invite.
