Nordics win 2nd in a row

REPUBLIC - North Dickinson, with three players scoring in double figures, shook off Republic-Michigamme in the second half for a 43-31 Skyline Conference boys basketball victory Thursday.

Cody Berg, 13 points; Logan O'Neil, 13, and Ken Pekarek, 11, led the Nordics. Republic, sparked by Jonathan Lygdman's 16 points, claimed a 15-14 halftime advantage.

"We played a team that was hungry and had us on the ropes," said Nordics coach Chris Mattson, noting Lygdman netted 13 first-half points. "He played very well and kept them in the game."

North Dickinson's offense improved in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Hawks 21-9 in the fourth.

"We were able to set up pressure and get some easier baskets in transition," Mattson said.

Nordics (2-4 overall, 2-1 Skyline) host Norway on Monday.

North Dickinson's junior varsity defeated Negaunee's freshmen.
