James Haydon Sr.

GAASTRA - James "Bob" Haydon Sr., 84, of Gaastra, passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at his home.

He was born on Dec. 16, 1928, in Iron River, son of the late James and Theresa (Murphy) Haydon. James attended the Iron River Schools, graduating from Iron River High School in 1946. Following graduation, he attended St. Norbert College. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Bob married the former Maxine "Micki" Vicenzi on Sept. 25, 1954, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. They celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary in 2012.

He was the owner and operator of Haydon Gas and Oil Co. for more than 35 years; owner and operator of Trav-lures Motel for 17 years, and was employed by West Iron County Public Schools, retiring in 1996.

Bob was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, serving as usher, alter server, Eucharistic minister, and on the prison ministry. He was Exalted Ruler of the Iron River Elks Lodge and also district vice president and deputy of the Elks. He was also a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus and a member of Alfred Branchini American Legion Post 17.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at his camp. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph Patrick and sister, Jean Wicklund.

He is survived by his wife, Micki; sons, Jim (Betty Clements) Haydon of Iron River, John (Becky) Haydon of River Falls, Wis. and Jeff (Dina) Haydon of Pinckney, Mich.; daughters, Karen (Dr. Don) Patton of Iron River, Kim (Al) Anderson of Grafton, Wis., Katie (Bob) Hartline of Cedarburg, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River. The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will form an honor guard at the visitation. Funeral services will follow Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River, with Fr. Norman Clisch to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery in Iron River in the spring, with the West Side Veterans to accord military rites.
