The charge against David Allen Bergman stems from a Sept. 3 incident that occurred in Dickinson County.
Bergman pleaded guilty, and Judge Robert Holmes Bell set sentencing for March 7 at 1 p.m. in U.S. District Court in Marquette.
After being stopped by police on Sept. 3, a loaded Ruger Model Mark 2, .22 Caliber Semi Automatic Pistol was recovered from the vehicle that Bergman allegedly stole from his mother.
Bergman is being represented by Al Peterson, a federal public defender.
Felony charges against Bergman filed in Dickinson County have been dismissed in favor of federal prosecution.
Bergman has a 2002 conviction in Wisconsin for possession of three to 10 grams of heroin with intent to distribute, manufacture, deliver.
