SAULT STE. MARIE - Kingsford swimmers found themselves in a tight meet with Sault Ste. Marie Saturday, as the Flivver girls earned a 92-84 victory while the boys fell by a point 91-90.
"This was a great meet to attend with a lot of close races and personal best times," Flivvers coach Keith Freeman said. "The Soo team was down a few of their experienced swimmers, and I was proud of their swimmers who stepped in to fill in the spots where needed."
The Soo boys edged the Flivvers in the final relay by taking first and second.
"Each week we keep seeing great improvements in times and talent," Freeman said. "I am excited about how our team is shaping up for U.P. Final."
Freeman did note that top swimmer Josh Johnson is suffering from some shoulder pain.
"I plan to rest him this week so that we do not push his pain into injury," he said. "In the last two years, Johnson has only lost one race and I do not want an injury that could have life long effects."
The Flivvers swim in their final standard meet Thursday at Houghton.
