CRYSTAL FALLS - An Illinois man died Thursday in a snowmobile accident in Amasa.
The accident occurred at 1:09 p.m. off of trail 18 on DNR Road.
Deputies from the Iron County Sheriff's Department said that a 54-year-old man from Mokena, Ill. was operating a snowmobile when he left the road and struck a tree.

The man died at the scene before deputies arrived.
Excessive speed appeared to be a factor in the accident, deputies added.
Assisting the Iron County Sheriff's Department were the Michigan Department of Natural Resources conservation officers, Iron County Central Dispatch, and Northstar EMS.
