IRON MOUNTAIN - Bruce Erland Ring, 83, lifelong resident of Iron Mountain, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, in his winter home in Arizona. His final battle was with influenza and pneumonia and it proved to be a battle he could not win.
He was born April 25, 1930, the fourth of seven children of Robert and Frances Ring. He was a 1949 graduate of Iron Mountain High School. He married Lois Verley of Quinnesec - one of five children of Ralph and Mildred Verley - Feb. 3, 1951. Together they had two children, Kathy Terese and Jeffrey Bruce.
Bruce worked for the Wisconsin-Michigan Power Co. until his retirement in 1988. He worked as a lineman, easment procurement agent and job coordinator. In addition to his work with the power company, Bruce spent several years as a Breitung Township constable.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Frances Ring; inlaws, Ralph and Brownie Verley; two brothers, Donald Ring and Robert Ring; and one sister, Arlene Ullrich.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; daughter, Kathy Meyers; son, Jeffrey (Karen) Ring; four grandchildren, Heather Ring, Jamie Ring, Joshua Ring and Ruthie Grace Ring.
He is also survived by three sisters, Dolly (John) Larson, Cynthia (Irving) Good, and Alice (Ray) Person.
His was a large extended family, making it impossible to mention all the relatives who were so important to Bruce. To mention one and possibly slight another is truly the fault of the author and not any intentional omission.
It is appropriate to make special mention of Gerald and Marilyn Hallman, who stood for Bruce and Lois at their wedding; together with Debbie (Person) Krokstrom, Kevin Kempf, Ray Person, William Ullrich, Jack Larson, Chuck and Susie Kempf, Norman and Evelyn Verley, David Verley, Della and Ron VanAlstine.
A memorial service will be held this spring and there will be further notice of the date.
Condolences to Lois may be sent to her through her daughter, Kathy, via e-mail at Kathy@lambeaulodge.com. Cards can be sent via Kathy Meyers, W8079 S. U.S. 2/141, Space 23, Iron Mountain, MI 49801.
There will be peace in the valley for me dear Lord I pray;
There will be no sadness, no sorrow, no trouble I see;
There will be only peace in the valley for me.
