IRON MOUNTAIN - An 87-year-old Crystal Falls man has been arrested on several charges stemming from a vehicle chase that occurred Monday morning in Dickinson County.

Dickinson County Sheriff Scott Celello said Tuesday that the suspect, identified as Donald Lafountain, had supposedly made threats against Edwards Chevrolet employees on Saturday and Monday.

At about 8 a.m. on Monday, deputies were notified that Lafountain had left his residence in Crystal Falls and was on his way to Edwards Chevrolet in Iron Mountain.

Deputies located Lafountain's vehicle traveling south on M-95 and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

Celello said that Lafountain refused to stop and proceeded to the M-95/U.S. 2 junction, where he tried to ram a sheriff's department vehicle. He continued eastbound on U.S. 2, where he tried to ram an Iron Mountain Police Department vehicle, Celello added.

Law enforcement officials were able to block Lafountain's vehicle as he was entering the Edwards Chevrolet parking lot.

Celello said that Lafountain was taken into custody as he exited the vehicle, at about 8:45 a.m. Monday.

Lafountain was lodged in the Dickinson County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing a police officer, and driving on a suspended license.

The incident remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the Iron Mountain Police Department, Kingsford Public Safety Department, and the Michigan State Police.
