Ellie Olsen led the Modeltowners (7-10, 5-5) with 13 points, while Jordyn Hutchins scored 11, including six during the decisive push which extended into the early minutes of the fourth quarter.

"It's running offense and taking care of the basketball," Gwinn head coach and Iron Mountain High School graduate Ben Olsen said. "We were making layups, which has been a problem all year. When we make layups we can be a good team."

Shelby Talsma added eight points.

"She had some good looks and she was making them," Olsen added.

Bailey Grayvold and Heather Evosevich led Norway with 10 points each. The game went back and forth for the first two and half quarters, with neither team leading by more than four points.

Leah Mattson and Evosevich put in layups early in the third quarter for Norway, but the Knights only got five free throws from Grayvold the rest of the way.

"We had some looks," Norway head coach Carli Kelly said. "Our shooting was just awful. We're not looking to pass, not knowing what do when they pressure us on the back side."

Morgan Bruce, who led Gwinn with 12 rebounds, put her team ahead for good with a layup to start the 10-0 run and break a 31-31 tie.

"It turned into a rough physical game," Olsen said. "And when that happens to us we tend to buckle. If anything, this gave us some confidence that we can handle some pressure and win games where it turns physical.

"I'm proud that our girls stuck it out and held on to the win."

Gwinn also picked up the victory in jayvee action. Norway (9-7, 6-5) hosts Stephenson tonight in a make-up game from Dec. 21.
