MADISON, Wis. - Florence's Cole Dollar decisioned Weston-Ithaca's Mason McCauley 10-5 to open the WIAA Division 3 individual state wrestling tournament Thursday night.

Dollar (36-5) advances to another 160-pound match today against Kevin Beckmann (40-6) of Ozaukee. Win or lose, Dollar will have a second match today in the championship or third-place brackets.

Coleman's Dexter Karban (30-8), who pinned Dollar in the sectionals, will face Mason Lind (35-14) of Laconia today.

Dollar battled the flu but nearly beat Karban in the sectionals. Dollar had Karban on his back twice in the third period.

"To beat Dollar, that kid's so physical, but yet he handled him," Coleman Coach Kevin Casper told The EagleHerald. "That's just pure guts to come out of that against a kid who's that physical."

Also Thursday, Isaac Nowak (195) of Coleman, the one defending champion in Division 3 to wrestle in the preliminary round, was eliminated from title contention with a loss by fall in the first round.
