DUNBAR, Wis. - Northland International University men's volleyball team competed in the last Wisconsin Volleyball Conference Division 2 playdate Saturday.

The schedule was demanding in that the Pioneers were going to have to play four best of five matches against quality opponents. Upon arriving in Chicago, it was learned that NIU would have to play the same opponents but would do so in consecutive fashion.

"I learned that we would have to play without a break," NIU Coach Dave Herron said. "A bit of a challenge, but to complain would not accomplish anything."

NIU began play at 10 a.m. and played until 5 p.m. without more than 15 minutes between matches. They played 16 straight games.

"We were competitive in every one of them until the end when we really had a ROAD game (roll over and die)," Herron said.

On the day, NIU took a match from UW-Superior 3-1 (23-25, 25-11, 25-12, 25-19), lost to host Moody Bible Institute 3-1 (16-25, 25-15, 25-14, 25-18), beat UW-Milwaukee 3-2 (15-25, 25-22, 25-21, 11-25, 18-16, and bowed to UW-Whitewater 3-0 (26-28, 25-23, 25-12).

Pioneers travel Friday for a benefit match at the Wisconsin Volleyball Academy and then host UW-Whitewater on Saturday at 1 p.m.
