Newspaper in Education Coordinator Chris Ashburn, shown here with Cathy Paul, manager of Birchwood Mall in Kingsford, are working together to organize the spring craft show to be held at Birchwood Mall on Saturday, March 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A few booths are still available and interested crafters are encouraged to contact Ashburn at 774-2772 for more information.

Vendors are encouraged to participate in the show.

Newspapers In Education Coordinator Christopher Ashburn said the Spring Craft Show is different than The Daily News Big Holiday Craft Show (held in November) in that this is a way for Newspapers In Education to have an event aimed at involving the community and welcoming in the spring season.

"This is a great opportunity for crafters and vendors to show off their products and ring in the (hopefully) warm weather," he said.

The show will take place from 9 am. to 3 p.m. throughout the mall, located at 610 S. Carpenter Ave. in Kingsford.

The event is being promoted heavily across the Upper Peninsula and northern Wisconsin.

"We anticipate that thousands will be in attendance," Ashburn said.

Admission is free.

"There are still some spaces left, but they are filling up quickly, so everyone is definitely encouraged to book a booth now. Anyone and everyone is welcome, whether they plan on showing lawn and garden items, boats, RV's, ATV's, home appliances, food items, crafts, etc.," said Ashburn.

Questions pertaining to the event or regarding booth availability can be directed to Ashburn at (906) 774-2772, ext. 17.

The spring craft show raises funds for Newspapers In Education, a non-profit organization funded solely through fund-raising events and grants paid for by The Daily News, local business sponsors, and generous subscribers.

Newspapers In Education provides area schools with the newspapers and other teaching resources in order to assist teachers and educators.
