Norway football coach's involvement benefits wrestling

Norway High School wrestling coach Nick Burklund appreciates the support of Bob Madigan.

Madigan, Norway's head football coach, has "helped us a lot with recruiting football players and just kids he sees in class every day," Burklund said. "It's really nice to have someone inside the school doing that for us considering Tracy (Haferkorn) and I work outside the school."

Madigan is a former Norway wrestling coach. Knights football assistant Terry Duval also owns a strong wrestling background.

"Bob knows you can build great football teams around wrestling," Burklund said. "That's great."

Norway won Mid-Peninsula Conference and regional wrestling titles this year. Any football player who wants to improve, has nothing else on his winter platter, should be on the mat regardless of experience. We've seen more than one novice turn into a fine wrestler ...

Coach Jim Hoogland, who shepherded Niagara to its first sectional boys basketball final in 30 years, received a congratulatory note from Stratford district administrator Scott Winch.
