IRON MOUNTAIN - A Kingsford man has been sentenced to 30 months in prison with three years supervised release for possessing a firearm.

United States District Court Judge Robert Holmes Bell handed the sentence to David Allen Bergman, 32, for possession of a firearm following a felony conviction.

Bergman is also to participate in substance abuse treatment. He shall not possess a firearm, ammunition, destructive device or any other dangerous weapon while on supervised release.

Charges were filed after Bergman was stopped by police on Sept. 3 and a loaded Ruger Model Mark 2, .22 Caliber Semi Automatic Pistol was recovered from the vehicle that he allegedly took from his mother.

Bergman was originally charged in Dickinson County. Felony charges were dismissed in favor of federal prosecution.

Bergman has a 2002 conviction in Wisconsin for possession of three to 10 grams of heroin with intent to distribute, manufacture, deliver.

He was represented by Al Peterson, a federal public defender.
