Travis B. Pearce, 31, entered the no contest plea before Judge Richard Celello on Monday. The plea, which is treated the same as a guilty plea for purposes of sentencing, was entered due to Pearce's inability to remember what happened on the date in question in the felony complaint.

Prosecuting Attorney Lisa Richards said the no contest plea is for operating/maintaining laboratory involving methamphetamine and habitual offender, second offense notice.

Richards said count two, which was attempted delivery/manufacture of methamphetamine/ecstasy, would be reduced as well as the fourth offender notice.

She added the plea deals calls for a maximum minimum sentence would be 60 months incarceration for the 20 year felony. The penalty is enhanced one and a half times for the alleged habitual offender charge, Richards said.

The charges stem from an Oct. 2 explosion in Iron Mountain.

Evidence at the scene of the explosion determined a meth lab had failed. Pearce was treated at the Milwaukee Burn Center for treatment of third degree burns.

The probable cause paragraph of the complaint was read into the record as evidence for the no contest plea.

Pearce was previously convicted of breaking and entering with intent on April 14, 2011.

Due to Pearce possibly speaking at Iron Mountain High School's drug program in May, sentencing was set for June 17 at 9 a.m.

Pearce is being represented by attorney Dan Anderson of Iron Mountain.
