IRON MOUNTAIN - The junior roller derby season is quickly coming to a close for the Kingsford Track Bratz.
The team hosts its final home bout Saturday, April 13, at the old Goodwill Building next to Forward Financial in a doubleheader, as the Kingsford Krush prepare to skate against the Dead River women from Marquette.
Doors open at 4 p.m., with the Track Bratz bout starting at 5 p.m. The women skate at 7 p.m.
"The girls have worked very hard this season and several of the girls have reached level III, which means that they can compete in full contact bouts," a Track Bratz team spokesperson said. "We were invited to participate in the Great Lakes Cup regional tournament but due to the small number of girls that qualified and injuries we were unable to attend. We hope to be ready for next year when the tournament comes around again."
A small group of girls will be attending Junior Con which is being held in Ft. Wayne, Ind., in July. Junior Con is an annual event which brings together junior derby girls from all over the country to participate in workshops taught by some of the top women skaters in the United States.
The Track Bratz and the Krush will be participating in the American Cancer Society annual Relay for Life and will again be in the Fourth of July parade this summer. The girls are selling luminaries for the Relay for Life and will also have other things for sale at a spot along the track.
In May, the team holds its annual end of the season party. Businesses interested in making donations to the end of the season party can contact email@example.com.
