Andrew Michael Bray, 74, faces charges of assault with intent to murder and carrying a concealed weapon after a Dickinson County Sheriff's lieutenant was stabbed in the back.

Prosecuting Attorney Lisa Richards announced on Feb. 22 that court proceedings were delayed to allow Bray to have an examination to determine if he was competent to stand trial.

Richards said today that Bray was evaluated by the State's Center for Forensic Psychiatry.

"Judge Ninomiya accepted the forensic examiner's report and opinion on April 15," Richards said. "Mr. Bray waived his preliminary examination on the same date."

Bray is set for arraignment in Dickinson County Circuit Court before Judge Richard J. Celello on Monday, April 29 at 9 a.m.

Bray is accused of approaching a sheriff's deputy (Lt. Derek Dixon) from behind as Dixon was walking near the clubhouse with another deputy while patrolling at the Continental Ski Jumping Tournament at Pine Mountain on Feb. 10.

Police say Bray then stabbed Dixon in the back (just below the neck) with a knife.

Police said the knife was knocked out of Bray's hands and he was subdued and taken into custody.

According to the felony complaint, when interviewed, Bray stated he had been having homicidal thoughts and had been thinking about harming a police officer for the past few days.

Lt. Dixon was treated at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital and has returned to work.

Bray, who remains lodged in the Dickinson County Correctional Facility on a $1 million bond, is being represented by attorney Dan Jaspen of Iron Mountain.
