GLADSTONE - Norway posted a 2-1 record at the Gladstone softball invitational here Saturday, defeating Munising 11-8 and Kingsford 16-6.

"It was a great weekend I think everyone was happy to finally get outside," Knights coach Scott Conery said. "The girls played really well I was very proud of them."

Against Kingsford, Bobbi Hulce connected for a three-run home run, and Bailey Grayvold added a two-run shot all in the first inning as Norway built an 8-0 lead. Kingsford managed a five-run third, but couldn't get any closer.

Norway's first contest Saturday was a 6-2 loss to Gladstone. The Knights led 2-0 in the fifth, but the Braves struck for six runs in the bottom half.

Norway is scheduled to play at Stephenson today.

Sammie Zander and Lacey Walsh pitched for Kingsford against the Knights. Zander allowed just two hits over five innings. Janay Walters, Brooke Sanford, Savanna Ventimiglia and Whitney Wender each had a hit.

Along with their loss to Norway, the Flivvers suffered a 12-6 setback to Escanaba. Emily Murdock took the loss, despite fanning six over seven innings.

Maria Wiltzius and Walters each cracked two hits. Jackie Luthardt, Ventimiglia and Lorna Caron added additional hits.

"We did not play very good defense in either game, way too many errors to win," Flivvers coach Kevin Murdock said. "We will clean that up and be a better team the next time we play."

Kingsford hosts Houghton this afternoon at Lodal Park.
