LAONA, Wis. - Goodman-Pembine rallied from a 3-0 deficit but bowed to Laona-Wabeno 7-3 in high school baseball.
The Patriots scored three runs in the third inning after the Rebels plated three in the second.
"We didn't string together our hits and walks to put a few more runs on the board," first-year Patriots manager Evan Neuens said. "Defensively, Laona put the pressure on us by putting the ball in play and capitalized on our mistakes.
"I feel we hit the ball relatively well for our first time outside and it was great for the guys to get out and play a non-conference game."
Cody Metras doubled for one of GP's five hits. Trent Heath cracked a two-run single in the third inning.
Heath pitched four innings, allowing one hit with six strikeouts and four walks. Roman Grebin permitted two hits, fanned three and walked two over the final two innings.
"The game didn't turn out in our favor but we are definitely a better team after," Neuens said. "We gained a lot of experience for some of our younger players."
Goodman/Pembine will scrimmage Niagara tonight before heading to White Lake Tuesday. The Patriots return home Thursday against Elcho.
