Dickinson MARSP hosts May 16 event

IRON MOUNTAIN - The Dickinson Chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired Public School Personnel (MARSP) will hold a local version of MARSP state convention and the annual meeting on Thursday, May 16, at Pine Grove County Club in Iron Mountain.

Don Johnson, Area 2 director, will preside the meeting. Boyd Thomas will be at the piano during the social hour from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., coffee will be provided and a cash bar will be available. From 11:30 a.m. to noon Don Johnson will offer a brief DVD presentation on insurance costs and other state news.

The noon luncheon will feature a mixed greens salad, hot rolls or bread, slow roasted beef, carrots, mashed potatoes and gravy, beverage, and strawberry shortcake. If a substitute for the beef is needed, chicken will replace it or you may order a club salad in place of the menu or vegetarian club salad. If you are not contacted by Thursday, May 9, call Carole Wilcheck for a reservations at 774-5053.

Any retired Michigan public school employee or spouse is encouraged to call for a reservation. They are encouraged to come to see what MARSP can do for them. Also call the number to cancel or add by Monday, May 13.

Members are encouraged to renew memberships at the meeting by seeing Germaine Edwards, Kate Thomas, or Pam Trask. Dues must be in by June 30.

After lunch, Don Johnson will conduct the annual state business meeting and give out Chapter awards along with Holly Stratton, Chapter president. The tech prize will be given to the member who has recruited the most new members. There will also be several door prizes.

The March/April Pantry Drive netted 303 units of food. They acknowledge members and co-captains, Jim Wilcheck, Carole Wilcheck, Shirley Pohlson, Jody Kelly, Milt Krznarich, and Ray Clemo.

The Dickinson MARSP Board has decided to begin the new membership season with a Wednesday, Aug. 21, luncheon and meeting at Pine Grove Country Club. This will replace the February meeting so that "snowbirds" are to have more participation. MARSP executive director, Mark Guastella, will be the special guest and speaker.

Members are reminded that the second annual MARSP U.P. Golf Outing will be Thursday, Aug. 22 at the Gladstone Golf Club in Brampto, Mich. All the activity costs $65 or dinner only is $18. Register at the May meeting or online. Call (906) 428-2676 for details.
