CRYSTAL FALLS - Beverly Camp, 68, of Crystal Falls Township, passed away on April 30, 2013, at Marquette General Hospital in Marquette, after a courageous battle with kidney cancer.
She was born Nov. 10, 1944, in Kalamazoo, daughter of the late Russell and Aurora (Quist) Frielink. She graduated as salutatorian from Lawrence (Michigan) High School in 1962. She and her husband Larry would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June.
Since moving to Crystal Falls in 1972, Beverly was active in community affairs. She was on the Crystal Falls Library Board for more than 30 years, served on the Contemporary Center Board, the Iron County Housing Commission and the Crystal Falls Township Planning Commission/Zoning Board. Most fun for her was being Mrs. Santa Claus for many years for Home Town Christmas and special library programs. She was elected County Commissioner in 2011 and re-elected for a second term beginning in 2013. Because of declining health, she had to resign from the position the first of the year.
Beverly retired in April 2000 from the Lud Stoor Agency. Prior to working at Stoor's, she was employed by the Falls Clinic and the Crystal Falls Hospital. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and most forms of crafting. She and Larry took great pleasure in "Jeeping," packing a picnic lunch, grabbing the maps and GPS and taking off for a day in the woods.
She is survived by her husband, Larry; two sons, Scott Camp of Green Bay, Wis., and Jeff (Barb) Camp of Crystal Falls; step-grandson, Josh (Fiance' Debbie) Hughes; step-great-grandson, Ethan and step great-granddaughter, Danielle; two loving sisters, Lenore Stenback and Gail (Bob) Kabel; caring sisters-in-law, Lila (Bob) Elgersma and Cherie (Jim) Foster; and many special nieces and nephews.
According to her wishes, there will be no service. Her body will be donated to the Mayo Clinic for medical research.
