CLINTONVILLE, Wis. - Kristen Gendron, Carlye Hicks and Alysa Khor all scored for Iron Mountain in a 3-1 girls soccer victory over Clintonville here Friday evening.
"I was real happy with the way we played," Iron Mountain coach Jim Laydon said. "We seemed to get our attack back after the Kingsford game.
"The girls were going forward and were aggressive; the girls wanted to put the ball in the net. If we can keep this spirit going we will be in good shape for the U.P.'s".
Down 1-0 early in the second half, the Mountaineers evened the score when Hicks drove down the right side and sent a cross to Gendron, who punched a left-foot tap to the left side of the net from about six yards out.
Later in the half, Ashley Berger took a run from her holding midfield position and made several combination passes ultimately finding Hicks assisted by Kristen Gendron for the second goal.
Iron Mountain keeper Hannah Hakamaki thwarted a potential game-tying goal on a free kick very close to the net in the 71st minute.
And in the 77th minute after an injury delay, Gendron sent a drop ball over to Khor, who chipped the ball over the crowd of Clintonville defenders into the left upper corner.
Hakamaki made three saves in the win. IM plays at Antigo today.
