KINGSFORD - Kingsford boys tennis, with just one match lasting more than two sets, dumped Menominee 8-0 in Great Northern Conference action here Wednesday.
"Even though Menominee is very athletic, they lack some tennis savvy and skill," Flivvers coach Mark Shanks said. "They are coming though. They were very close with Marquette and Negaunee.
"We're a notch ahead and hopefully we can stay that way when we hit the finals two weeks from now."
Kingsford (8-0) hosts Iron Mountain this afternoon.

Miners stop IM
IRON MOUNTAIN - Iron Mountain, swept in singles play, suffered a 6-2 boys tennis loss against Negaunee at Amos Marston Eastside Courts on Wednesday.
Gerry Pirkola and Max Frorenza won at No. 1 doubles for the Mountaineers. Also victorious were Henry Hakamaki and Danny Willman at No. 2 doubles.
"Those doubles are playing really well," Mountaineer coach Greg Stegall said.
Stegall also saluted freshmen Jacob Mongrain and Jordan Wadge for teaming up at No. 3 doubles for the first time and extending their opponents to three sets.
"They're a good match-up," Stegall said. "They came close to pulling it off."
Iron Mountain and Kingsford meet today.

MARQUETTE - West Iron County was unable to hand Marquette its second tennis loss of the season, falling 7-1 here Wednesday.
"We played well, though West Iron was without their No. 1 singles player (Austin Waara)," MSHS head coach Charlie Drury said.
"They had a lot of singles playing up a position and that's a tough position to be in."
West Iron County plays in the Negaunee Invitational Saturday.
