McCole sharp in Blues victory

The Daily News

GLADSTONE - Kingsford Blues American Legion baseball rallied past Gladstone High School 5-1.

Mike McCole earned the mound win, going 6 1/3 innings while scattering five hits and striking out four. He didn't issue a single walk.

"I thought that Mike was outstanding," Kingsford coach Kevin Murdock said. "Anytime that you have zero walks you are pitching excellent. Mike was just tough and was stronger in innings five and six."

Showing some fatigue in inning seven, McCole gave way to Austin Murdock, who struck out both batters he faced.

"He is true closer for us.," Murdock said.

C.J. Qualley and Conor Berndt each had two hits for the Blues. Murdock, Brien Johnson and Cole Tengesdahl added hits.

The Blues plated three in the third. Tengesdahl brough home Qualley with a hit, and Johnson drove in two more with a hit up the middle.

Murdock smacked a double in the seventh to score two more for the Blues.
